After wet weather on Friday at the PGA TOUR Champions event in Houston forced two rounds to be played on Saturday it was always a possibility that Sunday might be a washout, and so it proved.
Scott Dunlap led on Sunday morning but inclement weather meant that he never got to hit a single shot and the Insperity Invitational was called after the two Saturday rounds with Dunlap, the 36-hole leader, declared the winner.
Dunlap had grabbed the lead on Saturday with rounds of 65 and 70 and the victory is his second on the PGA Champions Tour following his 2014 win at the Boeing.
“The Tour has only gotten tougher,” said Dunlap. “Some really great quality players have turned 50 since I’ve been out here, so it only got harder.”
The reduction to 36 holes meant that Ireland’s Darren Clarke didn’t get a chance to improve on his 7th place where he was only four shots off Dunlap’s pace and Padraig Harrington finished in 19th at 2-under par, seven shots adrift.
