New accounts filed by Gavin James Ltd show that the company enjoyed the return to profit after sustaining a modest loss of €4,934 in 2022.
In a buoyant year for the singer of songs such as Always and Boxes, the cash funds at Gavin James Ltd increased from €81,937 to €301,587 during 2023.
The profits for 2023 resulted in the company having accumulated profits of €282,026 at the end of December.
James, whose real name is Gavin Wigglesworth, is the only director at the company and last year paid himself €179,678, which was a very slight increase on the director’s pay of €178,357 in 2022.
This year looks set to be even more lucrative for the Dubliner after high-profile gigs at Live at The Marquee, in Cork, the Summer Series, at Trinity College Dublin, and performing at the Heineken Big Top, at the Galway International Arts Festival.
The bumper profits of €194,398 follow two years on from €144,747 losses during 2021, when the Covid pandemic decimated the live entertainment industry for much of that year.
Separate accounts for another Irish singer-songwriter show that Hozier’s Haskey Ltd recorded post-tax profits of €467,946 last year.
It followed a small loss of €7,415 in 2022.
The 2023 profit resulted in the company sitting on accumulated profits of €4.7m at the end of December.
The company had cash funds of €567,121 while its financial assets increased in value to €2.19m.
Another set of accounts for Damien Rice’s Serendipity Touring Ltd show that it paid out €658,000 in directors’ pay and transactions last year.
The amount the firm owed the singer-songwriter of The Blower’s Daughter increased last year from €170,824 to €389,294.
Accumulated profits at another Rice firm, Damien Rice Music Ltd, totalled €232,840 at the end of June 2023.
This followed the company recording post-tax profits of €18,434 in 2023 which was down sharply on the post-tax profits of €94,508 in 2022.
During 2023, the firm’s cash funds decreased from €784,629 to €580,979.
The directors’ pay at Damien Rice Music Ltd went down from €82,500 to €59,334.
At the end of June, the company owed Rice €725,197.
