Must read

THE FAI have been slated for yet another blunder in one of their match day programmes.

And former Ireland star James McClean wasn’t best pleased due to a graphic used in the official programme for Ireland vs Wales Euro 2025 qualifier.

Just last month, the FAI called Ireland’s Nations League clash vs Finland a ‘European Championship qualifier’ in its programme for that fixture.

Fans were also upset with last night’s blunder as they took to social media to vent their irritation with a graphic that was used to illustrate what counties Republic of Ireland players’ roots stem from.

The map of Ireland showed all 32 counties with their names but Derry was pencilled in as ‘Londonderry’.

Wrexham ace James McClean took to Instagram as he vented his fury before telling the FAI that they were and ’embarrassment’.

He wrote: “The match programme at last night’s Ireland vs Wales game at the Aviva Dublin… disgusting, pathetic, insulting, hang your heads in shame you shower of a********!”

The ex-Ireland star is just over his seasonal media storm for refusing to wear a poppy.

In a recently and thoughtfully crafted social media post, McClean outlined his reasons for opposing the wearing of a poppy, citing the actions of the British military in his hometown of Derry during the Troubles.

Speaking to the 42.ie, the association issued an apology to any fans that were offended by the wording used on the graphic.

A statement said: “The wrong graphic was inadvertently used in an Ireland Women’s National Team match programme.

“This was a genuine mistake and the Football Association of Ireland apologises for any offence caused.”

In the game itself, Hannah Cain’s penalty and a Carrie Jones effort earned Wales a 2-1 win in front of 25,832 fans at the Aviva Stadium to ensure they go to their first ever finals with a 3-1 aggregate win.

And it left the Girls in Green slumped to their knees at full-time as they failed to follow up on qualification for last year’s World Cup by also securing a spot in Switzerland next year.
