Harrington hones in on second Senior Major – Irish Golfer Magazine

Must read

Padraig Harrington has been backed into 13/2 from 8/1 with BoyleSports to claim his second senior major at this week’s Senior PGA Championship.

The Dubliner finished runner-up in the tournament last year at Fields Ranch East, losing out in a play-off to Steve Stricker and will renew his rivalry with the American at Harbor Shores this week.

Stricker arrives at the Michigan venue in fine form, having finished third at the opening major of the senior circuit earlier this month, but failed to take up his engagement at the regular PGA Championship last week citing the difficulty of playing in four tournaments over five weeks.

Punters have now started to desert the seven-time senior major winner, and while he remains the 9/2 favourite to go back-to-back in the tournament, they’re hopeful that Harrington can claim a second win of the season, after emerging victorious at the HOAG Classic in March.

With Doug Barron, who took home the first major of the year just two weeks ago, a notable absentee from the field, LIV golf exile Richard Bland (7/1) and Ernie Els (16/1) have also attracted support with play set to get under way on Thursday morning.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Irish eyes were very nearly smiling at Valhalla last week before Shane Lowry failed to flourish in his final round, but punters are keeping faith in an Irishman lifting a PGA Championship this month and the money is starting to come for Padraig Harrington.”
