Pádraig Harrington has given himself a fighting chance of securing a ninth Champions Tour title after he clawed his way to within three of the lead heading into the final round of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic.

Harrington finished with four birdies in a row for a round of 66 to move to six-under-par with Ken Duke leading the way on nine-under.

Needing a fast start to make up a six shot overnight gap, the Dubliner birdied the second and bogeyed the fourth before kickstarting his round with birdies on the 7th and 9th.

He recovered from a bogey on 11 with a birdie on the par-4 12th before he took advantage of the scoreable finish where there are two par fives in the last four holes.

The 53-year-old rolled in a long range birdie putt on the par-3 17th and it was the highlight of his four in a row to finish.

Duke also carded a round of 66 to lead by one shot over Ricardo Gonzalez with Retief Goosen and Steve Flesch a shot further back.

Darren Clarke had a day to forget as he slumped back to four-over after a round of 76.
