And he was put under pressure for a start by the on-loan Norwich City hitman following his January arrival.

Many supporters had been indifferent over the move but Idah, 23, changed perceptions.

His 90th-minute winner against Rangers in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final — a ninth goal in 19 games — has fans wanting the £6million-rated man to stay long term.

Furuhashi — subbed for Idah at Hampden Park — said: “He’s doing a very good job and as a striker, as a colleague, I’m very happy for him.

“Everyone wishes him to stay. But at the end of the day that’s his decision. We want him to stay, though.”

Idah still has four years left on his Canaries contract.

But it may yet prove more realistic for Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers — who wants him signed again — to go with a loan deal for the 2024-25 campaign.

The target man’s overall season saw him end on 18 goals, having claimed eight for Norwich and one for Ireland.
