Ireland looks set to bake in summer sunshine this weekend as an area of high pressure takes charges of our weather, according to Met Éireann.
The high pressure will move in over Ireland on Friday and take charge of our weather for the June Bank Holiday weekend, bringing with it long spells of sunshine and temperatures in the low 20s.
Before then, however, we will have to endure a couple of days of showers and mixed weather. Met Éireann’s latest forecast says it will be “a little cloudy this morning [Wednesday] with a few isolated showers but they will quickly die out with sunny spells developing this afternoon.
“Staying mostly dry until a few scattered showers return later this evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in a northwesterly breeze.
“Isolated showers will drift down over the country tonight [Wednesday], turning heavy at times too across the northwest. Becoming rather cloudy overnight with lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees and a northerly breeze.
“Cloudy with a few showers but by late morning [on Thursday] the showers will die out letting some sunny spells break through. Staying dry through to the evening with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a northerly breeze.
“Staying mainly dry with a mix of clear spells and some scattered cloud [on Thursday night]. Longer clear spells will persist overnight as winds fall light. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.”
Looking ahead to Friday, Met Éireann says there will be “high pressure firmly in charge with settled and mainly dry weather throughout. Sunshine will turn a little hazy later in the afternoon however as a touch of cloud builds across northern counties. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light northerly breezes.
“Staying dry and largely clear overnight with just a little scattered cloud across northern counties. Light winds and lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.”
Saturday will be “fine and dry with plenty of long sunny spells and just a touch of cloud at times across Ulster. Light winds and highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees, warmest across Munster and south Leinster.
“Latest models would suggest that high pressure will remain for Sunday bringing plenty of dry and sunny weather throughout. Temperatures look set to reach around 17 to 21 degrees,” the forecast concludes.
The warmest temperatures over the weekend will be in the south and the Midlands, according to Met Éireann weather charts.
