Fatigue could be kicking in at the wrong time for Shane Lowry who feels a hectic two months of golf is starting to catch up with him as his BMW PGA Championship hopes all but ended at Wentworth.
Lowry started well at Wentworth as he chased a first individual win since winning here in 2022 but consecutive rounds of 71 have left him eleven shots off the pace heading into the final round.
Not much has gone right for the Offaly man who faces trips to Spain, Scotland, Abu Dhabi and Dubai before the season is out which will have seen him play nine events in ten weeks.
“Not very good out there the last two days, playing alright but just a little bit off. Lot of golf the last two months and I feel like it’s catching up with me, I’m disappointed, but what can you do,” said a frustrated Lowry speaking to Meridian Media’s Denis Kirwan after his round.
“I’m done, the tournament is over for me, I’m just going out there to shoot as good a score as I can tomorrow.”
Lowry has enjoyed an excellent year and does have silverware in the Zurich Classic alongside Rory McIlroy to show for it but after making the Tour Championship on the PGA TOUR for the first time last month and with just two missed cuts in twelve months, he feels he isn’t getting the silverware he craves.
“That’s the story of the season, I want wins and I’m not getting them and it’s frustrating.”
