Axar Patel who hardly got much of a chance to bowl, managed to have his moment with a stunning catch off his bowling.

While the pacers might have been the stars of India’s tremendous start to the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, Axar Patel also had his moment with the ball in India’s opening game against Ireland that took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

As the Men in Blue were on cruise control against the Irish, Axar Patel managed to take a fine catch off his bowling to dismiss Barry McCarthy for a duck in six balls as Ireland were left in disarray.

The Indian team’s T20 World Cup 2024 started off dominantly as the pacers were able to give the perfect start to put Ireland in their stranglehold for most of the innings

Arshdeep Singh managed to strike twice in the powerplay while Hardik Pandya took over in the middle overs with three wickets. Mohammed Siraj took the lone wicket while Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets to help the Indian side restrict Ireland to a mere total of under 100.

The conditions in New York as been very conducive to the bowlers, especially with the new ball where there is some seam movement on offer. It is likely that very reason why the skipper opted to go with four pacers in the lineup including Pandya.

The move turned out to be a masterstroke as they were the ones that put India in front after the first innings. Rohit Sharma opted to drop the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Kuldeep Yadav in the starting XI.

The Indian team will face off against arch-rivals Pakistan in their second game of the tournament which will also be held in New York.
