JASON KNIGHT has challenged himself to provide more end product after scoring just his second goal of the season.
The Bristol City captain gave his side a 2-1 lead against Plymouth Argyle on New Year’s Day only for them to be denied maximum points by Julio Pleguezuelo’s last-minute leveller.
It was the 23-year-old’s first goal since September. He has also clocked up five assists this term.
But, although he has mainly been deployed as a defensive midfielder in his second full season at Ashton Gate.
He is demanding more of an attacking contribution from himself.
He said: “It was a good goal. I am happy to be adding goals and assists to my game. It is something I need to be contributing more.
“So I am delighted with the goal but hopefully there is more to come.
“I was looking forward to sending the fans home with all three points but it wasn’t to be.
“So we will go again on Saturday against Derby County.”
Ahead of the game against Knight’s former club, the Robins lie 10th, five points off the final promotion play-off spot with the Ireland international ruing their inability to hold on for a win.
He said: “It was a positive performance but the result is what we are after isn’t it?
“We had numerous chances to kill the game off. So it is a disappointing result.
“We started the game really well and quietened the crowd down, got a really good goal and should probably have kicked on from there.
“I think we’ve managed the game quite well during the second-half but maybe it was a lapse in focus that cost us two points.”
