Ireland to open Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign against Japan as tournament fixtures unveiled

Ireland will begin their Women’s Rugby World Cup against Japan in Northampton in August 2025 and their final pool game will be against the reigning champions New Zealand in Brighton.

After the draw for the tournament was made last week, the schedule was confirmed today including Ireland’s fixtures in Pool C.

Scott Bemand’s team will kick-off their World Cup against Japan at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton on Sunday August 24 with a 12pm kick-off.

Their second game in pool C will also be at Franklin’s Gardens with a midday kick-off against Spain on Sunday, August 31.

On Sunday September 7 at Brighton and Hove Albion Stadium in Brighton, Ireland will play their third and final pool game against the Black Ferns with a 2.45pm kick-off.

The top two teams from each pool will progress to the quarter-finals.

The winner of Pool C will play the runners-up of pool D which features France, Italy, South Africa and Brazil.

If Ireland top their pool that quarter-final will take place on Saturday September 13 at Sandy Park, Exeter.

If Ireland finish second in their pool, they will play the winners of Pool D on Sunday September 14 at Sandy Park.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 will kick-off on Friday, August 22 with host nation England facing USA in the opening match at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.
