TEAM NEWS

A gloom has hung over the Boys in Green for the longest time amid a dearth of meaningful victories. And it looked like another competitive outing to forget was on the cards when stand-in captain Nathan Collins made a horrendous error in Helsinki on Thursday night.

But they did something that hadn’t been done in a competitive environment since beating Kazakhstan at the Aviva Stadium 11 years ago: Earning a comeback win after conceding first.

After Joel Pohjanpalo’s opener, Liam Scales’ header, first international goal, equalised for Ireland in the 57th minute before Robbie Brady benefitted from Festy Ebosele’s impressive wing-play to fire home at the back-post with two minutes to go to secure a famous win.

Ireland will be looking to use the confidence and momentum from Helsinki in Athens with a crowd of 28,000 expected at the 30,000 seater tomorrow night, with 1000 Irish supporters set to make the trip.

Ireland will face a formidable Greek side, who approach to home match with three wins from three games so far.

The Greeks came out on top in the reverse fixture last month, winning 2-0 in Dublin.
