Ireland v Hungary: TV channel, team news and betting odds for friendly clash

Ireland entertain Euro 2024 bound Hungary in an international friendly at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday evening. 

John O’Shea once again takes interim charge of the Republic of Ireland with the team now without a permanent manager since Stephen Kenny last November.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm and while there is nothing on the line for Ireland in terms of preparation for a major tournament, it could be yet another audition for former Manchester United player O’Shea to get the manager’s job full-time. 

Hungary will be looking to give plenty of their squad a run before they head to Euro 2024 next week where they face the likes of hosts Germany in their group.

You can watch the Republic of Ireland v Hungary on Tuesday on RTE 2 television with coverage starting at 7.30pm. Kick-off is at 7.45pm. The game is also available to stream on the RTE Player.

Team News

The team will be announced closer to kick-off but defender Andrew Omobamidele has been ruled out of the two matches through injury so U-21 defender Bosun Lawal has been promoted to the senior squad for the first-time.

Striker Troy Parrott reported for duty on Monday after his Eredivisie relegation play-off for Excelsior where he scored a hat-trick so is in the contention to make the match-day squad.

Interim Head Coach John O’Shea told a press conference: “Unfortunately, we lost Andrew Omobamidele. He got a little nick on his hamstring, so that was unfortunate,” said Interim Head Coach John O’Shea.

“He has had a decent enough season with Nottingham Forest and established himself for a good bit and then was out of the team a little bit towards the end of the season, but he was one we were potentially looking to get some game-time into over the next two games.

“Because of Bosun being involved in training with us, he’ll come into the match-day squad, he had done very well at training, he’s settled in well so he’ll be in the match-day squad tomorrow.

“My thought process is very simple to pick a team to go and beat Hungary. We want to beat Hungary, we want to get the Irish team winning again, it’s as simple as that.”

Hungary are the slight favourites to win the game at odds of 6/4. Ireland have been priced up at 9/5 while the draw is priced at 2/1.
