Irish Examiner

Must read

A century ago, a team of Ireland’s leading athletes represented the then Irish Free State at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. It was the largest and most ambitious team to represent the country at any international competitive games.

Now, 100 years on, the nation once again approaches the 2024 Olympic Games with even greater hopes and ambitions for its talented team.

In this celebratory publication, we reflect upon some of the great athletes to have represented the country over the past century.

We talk to some of the driving forces in Irish sport, and interview some of those representing Ireland at Paris 2024, along with a roll of honour of past medal winners and features on sports artworks and athletes who are using their public profiles to promote issues like sustainability and leading drives to encourage greater levels of participation in sports among young people.
