In a new list compiled by travel insurance providers InsureandGo, two epic Irish routes have ranked among the world’s most ‘action-packed’ road trips.

Listed alongside world-famous routes in the likes of Germany, Italy, and the USA, the Irish roads are considered among the best places to get behind the wheel.

The iconic Ring of Kerry was the first of two epic Irish routes that ranked among the world’s most ‘action-packed’ road trips.

The route is known for its beautiful landscapes, breathtaking beaches, and charming villages. Thus, making it one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Ireland. Boating an average of 4.2 attractions every 10 km, you’ll have plenty to see and do.

Along the way, you can discover the beautiful natural oasis of Killarney National Park and the charming town of Kenmare. Be amazed by the beauty of the Gap of Dunloe and enjoy a peaceful stroll along the majestic Rossbeigh Beach.

InsureandGo researchers state, “This classic Irish route is packed full of attractions and is part of the much larger Wild Atlantic Way. 

“Highlights include Killarney National Park, Ireland’s first national park, home to natural wonders like the Torc Waterfall, and spots where visitors can spot puffins along the coastline.”

The Causeway Coastal Route – the pride of the north

Winding its way along the rugged northern coastline of Ireland, the Causeway Coastal Route is a must-visit. Thus, it’s unsurprising that it was another one of the Irish routes ranked among world’s most ‘action-packed’ road trips.

The route is home to Dunluce Castle, the UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway, and countless beautiful beaches. Impressively, it boasts an incredible average of 7.6 attractions for every 10 km.

Ranking the route in fifth place, the researchers highlighted it as a “breathtaking coastal route” that “won’t leave visitors disappointed”.

Several other famous global road trips were named on the list. The Peak District in England claimed the top spot with a whopping 11.3 attractions for every 10 km.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Black Forest High Road (Schwarzwaldhochstraße) followed just behind in second with 11.2.

The USA’s Hana Highway claimed third with nine attractions per 10 km alongside Italy’s Amalfi Coast, also with nine. La Route des Vins d’Alsace in France claimed sixth, with 6.4 attractions per 10 km. Then Scotland’s Highland Tourist Route followed in seventh with 5.7.

Just beating out The Ring of Kerry, The Florida Keys Road Trip claimed eighth with an average of 4.5 attractions for every 10 km. Then, The Coastal Way in Wales followed in ninth with 4.3.
