None of the Irish players matched par on day two at the First Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School.

Whitehead’s John Ross Galbraith was the best of the bunch after a one-over 71 left him tied for 21st on one-over at halfway at The Players Club in Bristol, seven shots behind the leaders, American Aman Gupta and New Zealander Jimmy Zheng.

Danny Brennan and Rowan Lester shot 72s and amateur Hugh Foley a 73 to share 29th on three-over, while The K Club’s Liam Grehan was joint 44th on six-over after a 71.

At the weather-delayed qualifier at Golf Nazionale near Rome, Daniel Mulligan and Michael Young shot three-over 75s to share 67th on four-over with Brandon St John also shooting 75 to lie 78th on nine-over.

American Scott Stevens held the clubhouse lead on 11-under after a 67.

Another seven First Stage qualifiers are scheduled over the next four weeks.

The leading 17 and ties in Bristol will qualify for October’s Second Stage.

A similar number will progress in Italy, where the delayed second round was suspended due to darkness.
