IT outage continues to affect AIB credit card payments

A new IT outage won’t allow AIB customers make credit card payments through credit card terminals. The outage has lasted most of working day on Thursday.

“AIB Merchant Services is continuing to investigate the disruption in service to multiple products and services,” the bank said in a statement this afternoon.

“Our AIB Merchant Services are experiencing technical issues that may be impacting merchants’ ability to accept cards and outbound settlement funds… Progress is being made to fully resolve the issue and services are beginning to be restored.”

Some traders have contacted the Irish Independent saying that the outage is hurting their business.

“I have six locations currently affected,” one business owner told the Irish Independent.

Several customers and traders have posted similar stories on social media.

“This is causing big disruption to our business this morning,” wrote one.

“[Our] business is currently at a standstill,” wrote another.

Merchant services affects third party credit card terminals such as Clover, which are papular with small businesses as a way to take payments quickly form credit cards.

A spokesperson for the bank said that the outage is the result of a “wider European issue”.

“AIB is not experiencing technical issues today,” the spokesperson said.

“AIB MS, a joint venture with Fiserv, is aware of a technical issue with some processing services which stems from a wider European issue. They are working urgently to resolve the issue and will update the clients as soon as they can.”

AIB says that updates on the outage will be provided on its dedicated merchant services web page, Aibms.com.

There have been no complaints about the outage affecting online credit card payments.
