Job Alert! Irish Rail launches recruitment drive for over 100 new drivers

Irish Rail are “seeking ambitious applicants” in a new recruitment campaign for train drivers and electricians.

The rail operator has launched the recruitment drive seeking up to 100 new drivers in locations across Ireland.

According to the Irish Rail website, candidates must be willing to work various shift patterns including weekend work, and successful candidates will develop “full operational knowledge prior to qualification as part of the Train Driver Training programme”.

They are offering a salary scale that “can reach a maximum of €65k per annum”. 

Applicants must meet European Train Driver Licensing requirements with a minimum of 9 years full time education and must be over the age of 20.

Irish Rail are seeking applications for the greater Dublin area (including Connolly, Heuston and DART locations, Fairview and Bray), Athlone, Ballina, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Mallow, Sligo, Waterford and Westport.

They are also hiring for 30 electrician roles in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kerry, and are encouraging women in particular to consider applying for these roles.

“With the planned expansion of services as part of the National Development Plan, and the long term outlook set out in the All-Island Strategic Rail Review, it is an exciting time to become part of a growing organisation,” Chief Executive Jim Meade said in a statement.

“We are also seeing great interest in careers in Iarnród Éireann from a range of backgrounds – we are a diverse and inclusive employer, and in particular we urge more women to apply for driver and electrician roles, and are encouraged by the increasing interest from women in recent recruitment drives,” he said.

Early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment, as the online applicant system will close when the required applicant number has been reached.
