Kneecap to play at one of world’s largest music festivals

Belfast Irish language rap trio Kneecap have been named as one of the artists set to play at one of the world’s largest musical festivals next year.

The hip-hop group, which is made up of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí, will be performing alongside some of the biggest names in music at Coachella.

Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott will be headlining the event, which will also feature Charli XCX, FKA twigs, Missy Elliott, and Megan Thee Stallion.

The festival will take place at the usual site in at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California over two weekends in April 2025, with Kneecap taking to the stage on Friday 11 and Friday 18.

Posting on social media the group said: “We’ll be seeing you in the desert at Coachella playing the Friday’s.”

The announcement comes off the back of what has been a successful year for the group.

Kneecap made headlines over the summer when they drew huge crowds to their set at Glastonbury and received praise from Oasis’ Noel Gallagher.

They will also tour Australia and New Zealand early next year and will support Dublin rockers Fontaines D.C. at the band’s headline show at Finsbury Park in London next July.

The Kneecap film, which based on the rise of the Belfast group, scored a string of award nominations at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) as well as two prestigious European Film Award nods.

The film was also nominated for 14 awards at the BIFAs including Best Screenplay, Best Director for Rich Peppiatt and joint lead performances for Kneecap trio Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvai.

It sees all three rappers play themselves in debut acting roles, alongside actor of international renown Michael Fassbender. And was chosen as Ireland’s official entry for Best International Feature at the upcoming Academy Awards.

A presale for festival tickets will take place this Friday.
