Leinster Lightning win quick in Pembroke

Must read

DUBLIN – In keeping with their dominant performances throughout this year’s IP20 season, the Lightning put the Warriors to the sword with remarkable precision.

With light rain clearing and blue skies opening up, North West Warriors captain Andy McBrine won the toss and decided to bat first in Sandymount.

After some expansive shots from Gavin Roulston though the visiting side were in trouble. First at 14-1 but soon 22-2, 23-3, 35-4 and 38-5. Eventually at 72-8 it felt like the Warriors would have difficulty getting back into the game.

Gavin Hoey was exceptional with the ball, taking 3-14 from his four overs. But the game was originally set up by a spectacular opening spell from Jai Moondra who made his debut for the Lightning.

After being bowled out with eight deliveries remaining, North West Warriors needed the perfect start to defend 83.

The visitors managed this, removing Tim Tector in the opening over. From there however, Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker mercilessly marched towards the total in 8 overs with both eyes on the trophy.
