Let’s raise a toast to Ireland’s fringe theatre scene, pushing the boundaries despite the financial hardships

I know of people who have spent 40 years working in retail but who describe themselves as actors. And in the next 40 years, hundreds more men and women will emerge from drama schools, only to find themselves unable to break into their chosen profession and having to find another.

And in the next 40 years, hundreds more men and women will emerge from drama schools, only to find themselves dissatisfied and disappointed. Therein lies one of the main problems of what we call fringe theatre. There just isn’t enough work, even for the talented ones.
