SHANE Lowry has revealed his number one goal as the Ireland Olympic team was finalised for the 2024 Summer Games.
The Paris 2024 team of Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow will once again represent Ireland in golf at La Golf National on the outskirts of Paris.
The same quartet represented Ireland at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where Lowry finished 16th.
But Lowry, who competes in the The Open Championship later this week at Royal Troon has his eyes firmly set on a podium place in Paris.
Speaking at the Ireland Golf Team announcement, the 2019 Open winner is relishing the opportunity in the French capital.
He said: “My first experience in Tokyo was amazing and it feeds you with the hunger of wanting to do it again and to come back and give it a better shot this time.
“A lot of what I’ve talked about and done this year has been geared towards the Olympics in Paris.
“I have always said that I’d love to bring a medal back to Ireland, and that’s my number one goal. It’s great to be going back there with Rory too.”
OPEN ASSAULT
Meanwhile, the Claret Jug will be contested at the Royal Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland as the final major of the calendar year will be fought for.
And 37-year-old Shane Lowry, decided to skip last week’s Genesis Scottish Open.
Lowry took a different route of preparation ahead of the 2024 Championship that gets underway on Thursday.
The Offaly star recently joined Hogs Head in Waterville, and that’s where he headed last week to put the final touches on his skill-set ahead of his trip to Scotland.
Clara ace Lowry is amongst the favourites to win the title at 33/1 after finding solid form of the PGA Tour this season.
His FedEx Cup standing is the best in his career at this stage in the season heading into the playoffs.
Lowry has five top-10s this season and one win at The Zurich Classic with Rory McIlroy as he lie 12th on the points ladder.
