Over €226,000 in funding has been announced for Laois Local Sports Partnership (LSP) under the Dormant Accounts Fund.
Of this allocation, €134,000 will be allocated for hubs, €45,000 for urban outdoor adventure, €25,000 for equality, diversity and inclusion, €15,000 for training and education and finally €7,000 for the Her Moves initiative.
This money is part of a €5 million allocation from the Dormant Accounts Fund awarded to Local Sports Partnerships nationwide, and Active Disability Ireland.
This funding will support local volunteers in disadvantaged areas, promote women’s participation in sports, and provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Sean Fleming TD, Minister of State welcomed the news.
“This is part of ongoing Government funding to promote physical well-being and this will support projects so everyone can enjoy the numerous health benefits of being active in sport,” said Minister Fleming.
“I want to praise Laois Local Sports Partnership for the invaluable work they do in supporting communities and community groups throughout the County to promote sport and increase participation in sport.
“I encourage everyone to contact the Laois Local Sports Partnership, whether you are a sports person, a community group or someone who has never been involved in sports.
“The Laois LSP will provide you information and will assist you to promote and participate in sport,” the TD finished.
The news was announced by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, and the Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne.
“Today’s announcement of the Dormant Accounts Fund allocation will support a range of excellent work across the country and is a testament to our commitment to fostering inclusivity and well-being through sports and physical activities,” said Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin.
“This funding will empower innovative projects that support volunteers in disadvantaged areas, promote women’s participation in sports, and provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
“By championing a ‘Sport for All’ ethos, we aim to create a healthier and more active Ireland for everyone,” Minister Martin finished.
Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht Thomas Byrne also welcomed the news.
“The Olympics and Paralympics have provided us with so many memorable sporting moments over the last few weeks but ultimately, involvement in sport begins at the grassroots and that is why it is so important for us to support the valuable work of our Local Sports Partnerships and Active Disability Ireland,” Minister Byrne said.
“Everyone, of every ability, should enjoy the right to participate in sport and this €5 million allocation from the Dormant Accounts Fund represents a significant milestone in our efforts to make sport accessible to all members of our community,” he finished.
