Rory McIlroy’s attempt to add an Olympic Medal to his trophy cabinet will commence in elite company as he’s set to play alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler and Swedish sensation Ludvig Åberg for the opening two rounds.
With just 60 players in the field, each three-man group will start on hole number one and the McIlroy, Scheffler and Åberg grouping are the seventh out on Thursday morning and will begin their assaults at 11:11 Irish time.
Frenchman Victor Perez will have the honour of getting proceedings underway at 10:00 when he hits the opening tee shot with Matti Schmid of Germany and Tokyo Bronze Medal winner C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei for company.
Shane Lowry is in the 15th group alongside Canadian Nick Taylor and Korea’s Byeong Hun (Ben) An at 12:44, with the second marquee grouping of Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and 2024 double-major-winning Xander Schauffele alongside following in the next time slot.
