SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Western Michigan men’s tennis team wrapped up the Fighting Irish Mini Duals on Sunday, wrapping up three days of competition at Notre Dame’s Eck Tennis Pavilion.
WMU’s paring of Matej Kajzer and Jack Davison opened play with a 6-1 loss DePaul’s Moser and Giles. They moved to singles, with Giles defeating Davison 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. Kajzer picked up a win over Moser 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).
The Broncos’ other pairing of Adrian Quiros and Alex Antonopoulos opened with a tough loss to Indiana’s Gelletich and Raghavendra, 7-6 (7-2). When the two moved to singles, it was Antonopoulos picking up the win, defeating Raghavendra 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-8). Quiros fell in two sets to Gelletich, 6-2, 6-2.
On Saturday, Quiros and Antonopoulos mirrored their Friday performance, dropping the doubles match to Gitschell and Hadziabdic from DePaul. Antonopoulos then rebounded in singles to defeat Gitschell 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6). Kajzer and Davison picked upt he win in doubles, defeating Wisconsin’s Aubert and Kumar 7-6 (7-2), but both dropped the singles matches.
On Sunday, Kajzer and Davison picked up another doubles win, this time defeating Gitschell and Hadziabdic, 7-6 (8-6). Davison picked up the lone win in singles, beating Gitschell 6-1, 6-1. Quiros and Antonopoulos fell in doubles to Moser and Giles, with Antonopoulos beating Giles in singles, 6-4, 6-2.
