Just three years ago, Mipo Odubeko was seen as one of the most exciting talents in Irish football. Today he is without a club, but rumours of a move to Shelbourne could be exactly what the 22-year-old needs to spark his career again.
Today Fleetwood Town cancelled Irish striker Mipo Odubeko’s contract with immediate effect.
The 22-year-old was Charlie Adam’s side’s seventh recruit of the summer transfer window, joining the Cods last August. However he’s only made a handful of appearances this season.
Odubeko was a free agent after leaving the Portuguese second-division side, Maritimo, and joined on a one-year contract.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 made 11 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring one goal.

Mipo Odubeko: LOI bound?
It’s been an unusual journey in football for the Dubliner. Odubeko started on the books at West Ham United, having previously been an academy player at both Manchester United and Manchester City. He played two FA Cup games for the Hammers’ senior team in what looked like a promising start to a glittering career with several countries from Nigeria, and England looked for his services at the international level before eventually settling on the Boys In Green.
Odubeko featured in the first leg of the U23 Euro 2023 playoff between Ireland and Israel alongside the likes of Evan Ferguson, Aaron Connolly and Will Smallbone.
After leaving West Ham, the Tallaght player also had loan spells at Huddersfield Town, Doncaster Rovers and Port Vale before his spell with Portugal side Maritimo.
Odubeko could, however, be set for a reprieve on his career as John Fallon of the Irish Examiner is reporting that Damien Duff League of Ireland champion side Shelbourne are in pole position to get the signature of the sharpshooter.
In what seems to be a theme with promising Irish strikers, Odubeko seemed to be a hugely exciting prospect for the future and still could potentially be if Duffer can get a tune out of him to help him bang in the goals on a consistent basis and if he can stay injury-free after previously suffering from a serious hamstring issue.
