Located at the Maltings, the new nursing home will provide compassionate care for 101 residents, while creating 100 job opportunities.
With a strong focus on enhancing the quality of life for their residents, Emeis offers a wide range of services, including 24/7 skilled nursing care, physical therapy, memory care, and wellness programmes.
The Residence Portlaoise is designed with modern amenities to foster a comfortable and homelike environment, allowing residents to receive medical care while maintaining dignity and independence.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Peter Burke said: “This occasion marks a significant milestone in emeis’ commitment to ensuring the well-being, care, and dignity of our elderly citizens, who have spent their lives building our communities. It is extremely positive that Emeis will be employing over 200 people in the Portlaoise area by 2025, both here and in its Kilminchy nursing home.
“I am also pleased to see the ambitious growth plans for Emeis in Ireland, with the scheduled expansions in Kilkenny and Dublin, in the coming months, set to enhance vital nursing home care services in those communities, culminating in 2,700 vital jobs nationally and boosting local economies growing to 3,200 by 2025,” he added.

The Residence is a new nursing home located at The Maltings Portlaoise. It will provide care for 101 residents and will create 100 job opportunities.

The Residence Portlaoise is a state-of-the-art purpose-built Nursing Home set in large grounds within a short distance of Portlaoise town centre, Co Laois.
The nursing home consists of 101 single en-suite bedrooms, furnished to an exceptionally high standard, equipped with a television, personal telephone and a Nurse call system.
There are 12 spacious lounge – communal rooms for residents to relax and enjoy the many in-house social activities along with large grounds and gardens that can also be used to spend time with family and friends.
