Oasis fans spend average of €347 on tickets – AIB

The highest average transaction value for tickets among AIB customers so far this year was recorded on Saturday August 31 when tickets for the concerts went on sale.

The total spend on tickets soared to €6.3m, the bank reported.

Music fans spent an average of €347 on the day, jumping 300pc from the average transaction of €87 in the year to date.

The highest spend per transaction on the day was €466 and was made in Kildare. This was followed by €444 in Monaghan, €429 in Louth and €420 in Roscommon.

It was a busy month for music fans, with tickets for Electric Picnic going on sale earlier in the month.

The total spend on tickets on August 21 jumped to €4.8m, with the top spenders located in Co. Laois where the festival is held in Stradbally.

On August 30, a further €3.9m was spent as All Together Now tickets went on sale to the general public. The Oasis pre-sale also took place.

The hospitality sector also had a strong month as the summer drew to a close, with spending in restaurants rising 11pc.

Hotel spend was up 7pc, while spending in pubs across the country rose 5pc.

People from Kerry increased their spending on hospitality by 15.7pc last month. Hospitality spend from those in Leitrim also rose 15.3pc.

The data was compiled from a total of 75 million debit and credit card transactions in store and online in August.

Grocery spend accounted for the highest total spend per sector at €552m in August, up 5pc from the prior month.

A growing number of consumers opted to use digital wallets, with spending by this method up around 5pc, while online and contactless spending rose 3pc across the month.

Spending on electric vehicle charging surged 44pc from the same time in 2023 and was up 9pc from July, the research found.

Overall spend in August rose 3pc from the previous month.

“Interestingly, homeware spend rose 13pc, as people chose to invest in their homes and gardens during the summer months. These insights are vital for businesses, to help them plan accordingly, grow their business and support our customer’s choices,” AIB head of consumer Adrian Moynihan said.
