MANHATTAN, Kan. (KCTV) – Kansas State is headed overseas for a rivalry game to begin the 2025 football season.

In an announcement shared Monday, K-State and Iowa State announced plans to open their 2025 football season in Dublin, Ireland.

The game will be played on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

“We are thrilled that Kansas State University and our football program have been selected to play Iowa State in the annual Aer Lingus College Football Classic,” Athletics Director Gene Taylor said in a release. “The opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni and fans to visit one of the world’s top travel destinations and to showcase our football program and brand on a global stage was one we could not pass up.

“We appreciate John Anthony and his staff for making this unbelievable experience possible, and I know our team, coaches and fans are eager to begin preparations for the trip to Dublin.”

Since Chris Klieman took over as K-State head coach, the Wildcats are 2-3 against the Cyclones. In 2024, the Wildcats and Cyclones will play in the final game of the regular season, meeting on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

They’ll then meet again to begin the 2025 season in an Irish version of the Farmageddon series.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be chosen to play in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic,” head coach Chris Klieman said. “Our players and staff are excited to expose our program to a global audience, and the cultural experience will also be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of Wildcat Nation.”

Eight Division I college football games have been played in Ireland, the first of which came in 1988 between Boston College and Army. K-State and Iowa State’s meeting in 2025 will be the fourth consecutive year in which a game in Ireland has opened “Week 0″ of the college football season and the first Ireland game including Big 12 teams.

This fall, Georgia Tech and Florida State will meet on Aug. 24 in the ninth-ever college football game in Ireland. In 2027, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin are scheduled to play a game on Aug. 28 to begin their season.

K-State trails Iowa State, 53-50-4, in the all-time series.
