Pakistan cricket team’s T20 world cup campaign is likely to end on Sunday as they face-off against Ireland in their final group stage match.
The final group stage game is to be played in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday, 16th June. Weather reports suggest heavy rainfall on the day in the area that will very likely lead to a wash out.
Pakistan has lost two of the three matches it has played, first against the USA and the India. The green-shirts won their third group stage match against Canada in the 17th over to improve their net run rate only marginally.
If the game against Ireland is washed out or even if USA get only a single point from their remaining games, Pakistan will be eliminated.
Their net run rate has now improved to 0.191, which means they are almost certain to qualify if they beat Ireland and if the USA lose their two remaining matches. The required result margins are tiny: even if the USA lose their remaining matches by a combined margin of ten runs (with scores of 140 by the team batting first), any win by Pakistan will suffice as long as they score at least 112 batting first.
However, the bigger concern for Pakistan is the weather, with rain forecast throughout the week in Lauderhill, where they play Ireland. If the USA gains a single point or if Pakistan loses a point due to a washout, Pakistan will be out of the World Cup.
