BANK of Ireland has been hit with a technical problem which has stopped some employers from paying their staff just days before Christmas.
Business On Line, a service of the bank used by employers, is not letting users log on and is returning a ‘service error’ message.
Frustrated customers messaged the bank’s customer support team on X at @talktoboi today, with many saying they had “wages to pay”.
Marian Sheehy told the @talktoboi account on X: “We are experiencing technical issues on the BOL website and people to pay…do you have any information please?”
She posted an image of a server error on the Bank of Ireland Business On Line site, which said: “Some unexpected Server Error occurred in the application. Please logout and login again.”
Marian added: “We are getting this error from different locations.”
Dolly said: “Similar issue here. Can’t report the problem as no one answering phones! Payday disaster looming.”
However, Bank of Ireland said: “Hi Marian, thanks for your tweet. Very sorry to hear this. There is currently no reports of issues with Business online.”
It also provided a status page for Business On Line, Business On Line Payments Plus and Business On Line File Gateway, which states that the bank sees no problem with the services and they are “currently operating as normal”.
However, the last update for the statuses was at 9.15am on Tuesday, December 17.
Bank of Ireland also told another user: “Please be assured that this has been raised with our support team to resolve this as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
The social media posts were just a few of a number aimed at the bank’s help profile on X today.
‘GENERAL PROBLEM?’
A profile called Dublin Accountants asked: “Business online is not working. When will it be back online. Wages to pay!!”
Aine Nerney said: “Hi there. Having problems with access Business Online. Server error keeps coming up. Is there a general problem?”
Chris McAloran said: “Also won’t let me login to business online to do payroll. Says logout and login again but no further on.”
A profile called S B wrote: “I can’t log into business on line either. There must be an issues. Keep being told unexpected server error.”
RECENT CRASH
It comes just a few days after Bank of Ireland’s mobile banking and 365 Online banking services crashed.
Customers were left fuming last Friday morning, December 13 but services had resumed by lunchtime that day, the bank said.
It posted afterwards: “Our mobile banking and 365 Online banking have now been restored. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers today.”
