Penn Hills graduate Adia Brisker recently signed to play professional basketball in Ireland.

The news was shared on X by the Penn Hills Lady Indians basketball account. Brisker recently wrapped up her collegiate career at Queens (N.C.) University.

Brisker’s best year in college was during the 2022-23 season. She finished with a career-high 12.2 points per game and started in 28 of the team’s 29 games. Brisker had an interesting odyssey through college basketball.

Brisker played her first season at Niagara University before transferring to Morgan State for two seasons. Overall, she played in 130 games and made 105 starts in her collegiate career.

Brisker averaged 8.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists during her career.

Rivalry continues

Penn Hills’ three-game winning streak was stopped by Northeast Conference rival Pine-Richland, 31-21. Penn Hills and Pine-Richland have had an intense rivalry since both teams ended up in Class 5A.

The Rams, who are coached by former Indians coach Jon LeDonne, knocked Penn Hills out of the playoffs last season. However, the Indians won the regular-season meeting last year, 26-20, to claim the Northeast Conference title.

Either Penn Hills or Pine-Richland has won the conference since the programs were first paired together in 2020. In 2021, the conference ended with a three-way tie for first place along with North Hills.

Close call

The Penn Hills girls soccer team has had a rough run of results. Penn Hills didn’t have a deep roster and has seen the injuries pile up this season. During a nonconference game against Obama Academy on Oct. 7, the Indians ended their nine-match scoreless streak.

Penn Hills (1-14-1, 0-9) was able to force the game into overtime but ended up losing 2-1 to the Eagles.

Smith transfers

Penn Hills graduate Amiera Smith has joined Point Park University’s volleyball program as it transitions to Division II with the rest of the Pioneers’ athletic programs. Smith previously played at Central (Ohio) State.

Point Park is 3-10 this season and has a 2-2 record in conference play.
