The Ashe Hotel in Tralee was a hive of activity this past Friday night as locals gathered to enjoy a fashion show organised by and in aid of the Phoenix Women’s Shed.
The Shed, a place for women to meet and to socialise, has been up and running since 2022 and has grown from strength to strength from its base in the Pipe Band Hall on Matt Talbot Road. This recent fashion show was organised by the group as a way of raising much needed funds for the Shed as they look to further enhance the services they offer, be that way through day trips out to inviting speakers to talk to the group.
Sheila Martin, the Secretary of the Phoenix Women’s Shed, spoke to The Kerryman after the event and was very grateful for the support that they received from all corners on the night.
“It was a great success. Everyone had a wonderful time. We were delighted that Sam Locke and Pa Daly come down too and we had Garda Mary Gardiner too. We even had two ladies from ‘Johnny’s Cottage’ as well in Breda Hurley and her sister, Miriam Moriarty Owens, they both modelled on the night,” she said.
“Ladies from the Shed itself modelled too and that’s what we wanted. We wanted ordinary men and women with ordinary shapes. We didn’t have these size eight professional models, it was just about these ordinary women having a bit of fun. It was lovely for them to be able to do this because I don’t know if any would have had he opportunity to model in a professional setting,” she continued.
Clothes for the fashion show were kindly donated by Pamela Scott, Paco, Shaws, Annbury’s, Jasmine and Celsius Men’s Shop with Sheila praising these shops for their kindness in donating them for the night.
