Popeyes has announced that it is continuing to expand in the United Kingdom and will open its first store in Ireland next month.

QSR reports that Belfast will see the opening of the eatery, which will feature its well-known crispy chicken, wings, tenders, Cajun rice, Southern biscuits, and gravy, in September of this year.

In November 2021, Popeyes touched down in the UK. Since then, the brand has opened 50 sites in the country.

“We’re incredibly excited to have landed in Northern Ireland — a region we’ve had our eyes on for some time,” Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, said in a statement about the announcement. “The Belfast opening represents the start of our commitment to the island of Ireland — it’s only the beginning of our plans.”

Additionally, the restaurant announced that the first three people who are in line for food when the Ireland location opens on Sept. 20 will win free chicken sandwiches for a year.

Back in April, Popeyes expanded its food offerings in the UK by offering a Double Stack sandwich.

The Double Stack Sandwich got its start from a renowned secret menu trick among Popeyes devotees. A lot of patrons were placing orders for double chicken burgers, which consisted of a chicken sandwich plus an additional chicken breast. In response to this demand, Popeyes added the Double Stack Sandwich to its official menu, making it simpler for customers.

The Double Stack Sandwich, which costs £7.99 (about $10.50), has two Shatter Crunch chicken breasts tucked between a brioche bun. There are two options available to customers: the Spicy Double Stack, which has a thick layer of spicy mayo on top, or the Classic Double Stack.

The Double Stack Sandwich is only the most recent in Popeyes’s long list of menu improvements and additions. The chain’s increasing popularity can be attributed to its tasty chicken choices and distinctive menu items that have struck a chord with UK consumers.

Other American fast-food brands, like Popeyes, are also considering growing in the UK market. Wendy’s, well-known for its famous Frosty dessert and square-shaped beef patties, has declared intentions to expand throughout the nation.
