Power to concentrate on FedEx Cup Fall as affiliate status eases DP World Tour commitments – News – Irish Golf Desk

Seamus Power does not need to play any more DP World Tour events this year to remain eligible for Ryder Cup selection as he holds Affiliate status and can concentrate on securing vital PGA Tour starts early next year.

The West Waterford man has played just two DP World Tour events outside the majors this season but as an Affiliate B member, he is in the same position that allowed Swede Ludvig Aberg to make the team for Rome last year and does not need to meet the four event minimum this year.

Power lies 53rd in the FedEx Cup standings and should he remain in the top 60 after the Fall Series, he will secure starts in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational next year.

Only the top 50 at the end of the regular season were guaranteed spots in all the Signature events in 2025 but Power is well placed to play many of them and playing the Fall Series allows him to consolidate his place in the FedExCup standings and the Next 10.

He opened with a one-over 72 in the Black Desert Championship at Black Desert Resort Golf Course last night as Adam Svensson fired a career-low round, bogey-free, 11-under 60 to lead by two shots from Henrik Norlander and rookie Matt McCarty before play was suspended due to darkness.

Power has received a fuill bill of health after his recent skin cancer intervention and appears set to regain the kind of form that saw him break into the world’s top 30 in 2023 before a hip injury ended his hopes of Ryder Cup selection for Rome
