East of Ireland winner Caolan Rafferty skipped around the Old Course in 70 shots to move into contention at the halfway stage of the St Andrews Links Trophy.
Rafferty is two-under-par and in a share of fourth place, six shots behind Seb Cave who continues to lead on eight-under.
After a hat trick of closing birdies gave Rafferty an opening round of level-par he continued in that vein of form with birdies on the second, fifth and seventh holes in round two.
Dropped shots came on 8 and 12 but he finished strong again with a closing birdie on 18.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy is back in a share of tenth place on level-par after a 74 while Roscommon’s Thomas Higgins is a shot further back.
John Doyle (Foot Island) and Luke O’Neill (Connemara) made the cut on the number at three-over.
