Republic of Ireland vs Hungary: International friendly – BBC Sport

Must read

Earlier on Monday, uncapped Celtic midfielder Bosun Lawal was added to the Republic of Ireland squad while Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele was ruled out through injury.

Lawal, 21, spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Fleetwood Town, scoring six goals in 42 appearances as Charlie Adam’s side were relegated to League Two.

Primarily a central midfielder, Lawal can also play in defence and has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at several underage grades.

Lawal will return to Under-21s duty after his involvement with the senior squad.

“He got a little nick on his hamstring, so that was unfortunate,” O’Shea said of Omobamidele.

“He has had a decent enough season with Nottingham Forest and established himself for a good bit and then was out of the team a little bit towards the end of the season, but he was one we were potentially looking to get some game-time into over the next two games.

“Because of Bosun being involved in training with us, he’ll come into the matchday squad, he had done very well at training, he’s settled in well so he’ll be in the matchday squad tomorrow.”
