We come across a lot of individuals, firms, and talking heads in this business of journalism.
Experts are called upon to give us their opinions, their takes, or to explain to the layperson the ins and outs of a deal, concept or business practice.
And Richard Ramsey has always remained one of Northern Ireland’s best minds in explaining economic performance, outlining headwinds and iterating the true picture and landscape ahead of us, dropping the jargon and painting a picture that most of us can comprehend and understand.
He’s been with Ulster Bank for 17 years and is now leaving his role as chief economist in Northern Ireland for pastures new, and opportunities on the horizon.
He joined the bank shortly before the global economy entered meltdown, and since then has been a leading voice among economists here, and a familiar face right across Northern Ireland’s wider business landscape.
“My biggest fear when I first joined the bank was performing a media and public speaking role,” Richard posted on LinkedIn when breaking the news he was moving on from his role.
It certainly didn’t prove to be a problem for him over the years – he was a familiar voice across the airwaves, and a recognisable face on our televisions, before expanding that front-facing media role into Ulster Bank’s own podcast series, as well as appearing on numerous others, including the Ulster Business Podcast.
