BoyleSports has made Scottie Scheffler a short-priced 3/1 favourite for this week’s US Open as the New Jersey native tees off on the back of yet another PGA Tour win.
Scheffler has already secured five tour titles this year including The Masters and last week’s Memorial Tournament and will take to the course at Pinehurst having emerged the victor in five of his last eight outings.
The world number one will be playing Pinehurst 2.0 for the first time in his career, but recorded a tied-second and an outright third in his last two US Open appearances and he remains the first pick for punters this week.
Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele are rated the likeliest contenders to put a halt to Scheffler’s scintillating run of form as 11/1 joint-second favourites, with McIlroy still looking to break a major drought that stretches back to the PGA Championship in 2014.
Seven of the last eight winners of the US Open were winning their first major and some punters have latched on to Viktor Hovland (18/1) to break his maiden as the Norwegian is yet another golfer to arrive at Pinehurst in great form, with a third in last month’s PGA Championship behind Scheffler the highlight of his season so far.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Punters are finding it hard to look past Scottie Scheffler and it’s easy to see why, but the stats at the US Open point towards a first-time major winner and Viktor Hovland has been singled out as a fly in the ointment.”
