EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State men’s tennis is back to work this weekend at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Mini Duals, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 1-3 in South Bend, Indiana.
The Spartans are back to work after finishing the past weekend at the Louisville Classic.
Freshmen Danial Rakhmatullayev and Mitchell Sheldon will be in action this weekend.
Coming off winning the Big Ten Player of the Week Award, Rakhmatullayev is looking to continue his victories in his first year at Michigan State. Sheldon is preparing to help the Spartans in preparation for Big Indoor Championships, ITA Conference Masters and ITA Sectionals, which all take place next weekend, Nov. 7-10.
Match play starts on Friday with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles. On Saturday, there will be two rounds of singles and one doubles match taking place. To finish the weekend there will be one doubles, and one singles match.
The Irish Mini Duals format is each round is best of three for singles. For doubles, the top-rated singles player of each team plays a singles match second-rated singles player of each team plays a singles match. Whoever wins two out of three matches moves to the next round.
Rakhmatullayev/Sheldon will take on Steiglehner/Oral from Michigan on Friday to start out their weekend. Following that match, Sheldon will take on Oral from Michigan and Rakhmatullayev will compete against Steiglehner from Michigan in their respective singles matches.
