St. Peter’s basketball team going for All-Ireland glory

Must read

The school’s Under-16 basketball team took on strong opposition in Maynooth Post-Primary School, but the Wexford side battled hard and pulled through with a 47-39 win, to qualify for the All-Ireland semi-final.

It was a very well-deserved team win, which included 18 points from Deon Fakinle.

The semi-final took place in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght later that afternoon, when St. Peter’s College faced O’Carolan College from Nobber, Co. Meath.

This was set to be a tough match, as OCC had featured strongly in the Schools Cup earlier in the season.

With great team play, and amazing support from the travelling Wexford supporters, SPC took on OCC with great confidence.

This confidence was eventually the factor that won the game for SPC, with a well-deserved 50-44 victory. It was another fantastic squad performance, including David Cummings scoring a highly impressive 22 points.

St. Peter’s College will now play in the All-Ireland final in the National Basketball Arena, and all in the school wish the very best of luck to the team and management.

This is the first time in the college’s history that a team has reached an All-Ireland basketball final – a truly incredible achievement.
