Commander of Irish troops in Lebanon says Israel firing on Unifil positions ‘unacceptable’ but that Irish peacekeepers are safe
Taoiseach Simon Harris has said the “deliberate targeting and abuse of civilians” by the Israeli Army is “a war crime” and must stop.
This comes as 15 UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon were suffering effects such as skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions after smoke from rounds fired near their position entered their camp this morning. This was shortly after two IDF tanks forcibly entered their camp and destroyed its main gates. No Irish troops were affected by the incident.
