TAYTO in the Republic has been forced to recall several products after golf ball fragments were found in crisp packets.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the warning on Saturday due to the “possible presence” of rubber pieces in specific batches.
They include single and multi-packs of Cheese & Onion, Salt & Vinegar with best before dates August 21-24, 2024.
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display a recall notice at point-of-sale, while consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
In a statement, Tayto said they were issuing a voluntary product recall.
“Fragments of a golf ball were found to be present in a small number of packs from the below listed products. We believe this material may have inadvertently been harvested with our potatoes,” they said.
“As a precautionary measure we are recalling all of the products with the best before dates detailed below.”
They added: “This precautionary recall has been initiated in the best interests of our consumers and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“We are working closely with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland and with our customers to ensure the potentially affected product is no longer available for purchase.”
Customers are advised not to eat the product if they have it, but to keep it and call the consumer care team on 01 8350611, or by email on customercare@taytosnacks.ie to arrange return and reimbursement.
The same warning was also issued by FSAI for Spuddy’s Irish Crisps with a sell-by date of July 26, 2024 – for six pack packs of Cheese & Onion and 24 packs of assorted flavours.
Tayto crisps in Northern Ireland, which is an entirely different company from the Republic, are not affected by the current warning.
