Ireland’s top tennis players, including a number of up and coming prospects from Tipperary, will get the chance to compete against professional tour players on home soil this Summer when the Irish Open returns to Carrickmines.

It will be the Open’s first staging since Covid, and after a five year break the AIG supported event will run from Tuesday 6th August to Sunday 11th August. Qualifying will be played on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th August.

Prizemoney of €15,000 for both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments will attract both Irish and international players working their way up the world rankings and the top Irish players will hope to emulate Peter Bothwell and Georgia Drummy’s successes. Bothwell won the Men’s Singles in 2018 while Drummy claimed the Women’s crown in 2019.

Sinead Lohan, who is just back from representing Ireland at the Billie Jean Cup in Moldova, and Ammar Elamin who is coming off a great win at the 2024 Irish Close Tour 1000 at Donnybrook at the weekend, were in attendance today for the launch.

Speaking about the event, Kevin Quinn, CEO of Tennis Ireland said: ‘We’re delighted to be bringing international Tennis back to Dublin this Summer. The crowds who turned out to watch our Davis Cup team play in Limerick earlier this year show that Irish fans really enjoy live tennis, so we are very grateful both to Carrickmines club and to our title partner AIG for teaming up with us to deliver this exciting event.’

Head of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorship for AIG Ireland John Gillick added: “As part of our insurance partnership with Tennis Ireland we are delighted to come back on board as the title partners to the AIG Irish Open that provides a great platform to men’s and women’s tennis In Ireland. We look forward to seeing the best of local and international talent performing for Irish tennis fans.

President of Carrickmines Lawn Tennis Club Tony Barr added: ‘We are delighted to have the AIG Irish Open back in Carrickmines this year. We look forward to a great tournament and welcoming players and spectators to our club.’
