‘There’s nothing you can do. He’s going to jail’ – Scottie Scheffler arrested as unrelated accident leads to Valhalla chaos

According to police, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a bus close to the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club eight miles outside Louisville.

This led to long traffic delays in both directions and with players anxious to get to the course, several (including Will Zalatoris and Cameron Young) abandoned courtesy cars and walked the last mile to the course in the rain.

Scheffler was detained by local police and led away in handcuffs by Louisville police after a traffic misunderstanding, ESPN reported.

Scheffler was originally scheduled to tee off at 1.48pm Irish time. But the entire field’s tee times were delayed due to the incident which occurred before Scheffler’s arrest outside Valhalla Golf Club.

His new tee time is 3.08pm Irish time and according to ESPN, Scheffler has been released by police and will be at the golf course in time to make his tee time.

The Masters champion reportedly attempted to drive past a police officer to enter the grounds, which led to his detention.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was “detained by police in handcuffs after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club.”

Darlington added, “The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla.

The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car.

“When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs,” Darlington reportedd. “He is now being detained in the back of a police car.”

According to Darlington, the police officer did not seem to know it was Scheffler and also told him, “There’s nothing you can do. He’s going to jail.”

Scheffler, who shot a four-under 67 on Thursday, was initially scheduled tee off at 8:48 am However, the PGA of America released a statement to say round two will not begin at 8:35 am local time (1.35pm Irish time.

With the delayed start time, Shane Lowry will now start from the 10th at 2:13pm Irish time, with Pádraig Harrington off at 3:30pm).
