Tobacco-style health warning labels proposed for social media apps in new child safety drive

Social media companies will have to display tobacco-style warning labels on their apps under proposals put forward by the Government this weekend to clamp down on harmful content and the viewing of harmful content online.

Education Minister Norma Foley has asked the Online Safety Commissioner to consider the move as a new code is brought forward compelling video-sharing sites and social media companies to operate effective age-verification systems to protect children from harmful content.
