Transport Infrastructure Ireland announced last week that Longford and Westmeath are to receive €4.9m and €12.3m, respectively, for road projects.
In addition €1.4m has been allocated for the N4 upgrade from Mullingar to Rooskey.
Deputy Joe Flaherty welcomed the funding announced for the N4 project. “We were concerned when it didn’t feature in last year’s funding. However, this announcement will finally allow the project team to identify the route.
“Once completed, the next phase and round of funding will take us to the complete design appraisal for this route and the preparation of a planning application.”
Local Minister Peter Burke also welcomed the funding allocation. He commented “Investment in connectivity projects in the rural constituency of Longford Westmeath is essential and improving our road networks allows us to engineer for road safety, improve journey times and develop rural business.”
